“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.” Pr. 18:21
People wonder why bad things happen to (seemingly) good people. This applies especially to people who go to church every Sunday, give tithes and offerings, and participate in church programs and outreaches. Then, when something bad happens to them the presses stop and everyone wonders why such a bad thing happened to such a good person?
The above verse says that, death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits!” James said, “If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless” James 1:26. Our words are powerful. Death and life are in the power of our words! Jesus said, we are either justified or condemned by our words – Mt. 12:37.
Proverbs 6:2 says, “You are snared by the words of your mouth;
You are taken by the words of your mouth.” Many have spoken the words of the enemy over their lives, their futures, their finances, their health, their children, their boss, and people at church. They have gossiped, lied, spoken worst case scenarios, and now those words are holding them in the snare of the enemy.
As born-again children of God, let’s acknowledge the life of God that abides in us and speak the words of life. Let’s allow our faith to become more effective by acknowledging those good things that are in us in Christ, by speaking words of faith! As the redeemed of the Lord, let’s speak words of redemption, that we were redeemed for the curse of the law, that our steps are ordered of God, that goodness and mercy follow us always, and though a thousand shall fall at our side and ten thousand at our right hand, no plague shall come near our dwelling!
We not only have the right to speak words of life, we have been authorized to speak life. God sent His Word so we could believe it, receive it, speak it and expect it to come to pass! Having therefore, opportunity, let us speak the words of life in the midst of darkness!
