“It is the Spirit who gives life… The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. – John 6:63
Have you ever tried to describe what words are? It shouldn’t be a difficult description because we speak words every day and we hear words every day. So, what are they? Most of us think nothing of speaking words. Many times, we take words for granted. In fact, we use words so often that we really give them no thought. But the question about what words are begs for an answer. Where do they come from? What are they filled with and what are they designed to do! Most people don’t have the slightest idea of how words are projected from their heart to someone’s ears. Nor do they realize how permanent words are. Have you ever tried to get a word back once you’ve spoken it to someone?
As Jesus said in the above scripture, words are… Spirit! They come out of our spirit, and therefore, they contain spiritual matter. They transport that matter through sound waves and enter the ears of others where they are converted to understanding. Words are what connect the spirit with the natural realm. Though words are unseen, have no physical properties that we know of, they carry many things.
Jesus also said that His words are… LIFE! In Mark 4, Jesus called words SEED! Seed carries the life substance of its origin. Therefore, the Word of God carries the life of God, and all of His eternal attributes, which are reproduced in the spirit of those who hear it, believe it, receive it and speak it! I Peter 1:23 says that we are born again by the incorruptible seed of the Word of God, which is the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
When man was created, it says that God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and he became a living soul. The Hebrew phrase, became a living soul is translated in the rabbinical writings as, “man became a speaking spirit.”
We have been given a wonderful gift – the Bible. It is God’s Word. We have the privilege of opening it, reading it, speaking it, and receiving the life, love and faith that is the spiritual substance in the Word of God! It will reproduce after its own kind, even as it was designed by God to do. There is LIFE in the Word of God that will swallow up the thoughts and mindsets of the death cycles of this fallen world and give us eternal life!
Let’s believe it and talk like it. It will change our destiny, our eternity and fill us with His peace until our faith becomes sight!
