“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
In Acts 12, Peter was sentenced to death by Herod. The night before he was scheduled to be publicly executed, he was in prison under heavy guard, locked up, chained up, with no way of escape! Humanly speaking, his death was assured. Talk about PRESSURE!! But the scripture tells us he was sound asleep! Why was he able to rest so peacefully in the face of all this pressure?
I believe that he was most likely reflecting on a conversation he had with Jesus by the Sea of Galilee after Jesus rose from the dead… The Lord asked Peter if he loved Him three times, until Peter broke down and said, “Lord you know all things…!” Then the Lord replied, “Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.” 19 This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, “Follow Me.”
By this time Peter knew that Jesus was to be believed. He knew that anything Jesus said could never be made void, not even by King Herod and his guards. Based on what Jesus told Peter, he was assured of two things; 1) HE WOULD GROW OLD, and 2) HOW HE WOULD DIE. So, as Peter was lying there in prison, he was more than confident that his execution would not take place the next morning. He believed Jesus and his faith in Jesus gave Him rest! As the story continues in Acts 12, God sent an angel and broke Peter out of prison and Peter went on to live, preach and spread the Gospel for quite some time! Later, that same Peter wrote the above verse, encouraging believers to cast all their care upon Him, for He cares for them! When we look into the written Word of God, it is God speaking to us just the same as if we were sitting by the Sea of Galilee listening to Jesus, as Peter did.
We can be sure that not one Word of the Bible will fail when we act on it. When we become doers of the Word, God becomes responsible for it, just like He was when Jesus spoke to Peter about his longevity and death. If He needs to send an angel to uphold His Word, He will! If it takes a miracle, He’ll do it! When we act on His Word we are activating the very power that created the heavens and the earth! God’s Word is spiritual law, and it has the power in itself to reproduce what it was sent to do! That alone brings us supernatural peace to resist any of the pressure that the enemy, or life, throws our way!
