“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” James 1:22

The Book of Proverbs is a profound wisdom Book of the Bible. The Book of James has been called the Proverbs of the New Testament. James himself, was the half-brother of Jesus and grew up observing the things Jesus did. Although James and his brothers used to call Jesus crazy, after he was born again, the Holy Spirit began to reveal to James the power Jesus walked in and demonstrated. He saw that when the whole world went one way, Jesus went the other way. He heard Jesus speak the exact opposite of what people were saying. What James witnessed Jesus doing and saying, was Wisdom in motion!

Jesus said, in the Sermon on the Mount, “…whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.” (Mt. 7:24-25) In short, doing the Word gives us the foundation we need to endure the storms of life!

Notice also what Jesus called ‘DOING his sayings (His Words);’ He called that “WISDOM.” No wonder James told us to “be DOERS of the Word!” Wisdom is doing what Jesus said no matter which way the world is going. Wisdom is speaking what Jesus spoke, regardless of the world’s narrative. And being a doer of the Word has many other benefits too! It accelerates our development in wisdom and brings understanding. Being a doer of the Word is a huge key in unlocking God’s wisdom and establishing us in a living faith and an active relationship with the Holy Spirit! When we do the Word, we are also walking in the same direction as Jesus, who is the Word! When we walk in His Word, we will experience His presence and power, solutions and redemptive benefits when we need them the most. We’ll find Him to be a very present Help in time of need!

With Love,

Pastor Tom
