“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life…”  John 10:27-28a

What is this LIFE that Jesus gives? How do we get it? Do we wait to die to get it? Or is it something we receive now, in this life? If we examine the words of Jesus throughout the Gospels, He used the phrases, “Eternal Life” (Jn. 10:28), “Life Eternal” (Mt. 25:46), “Everlasting Life.” (Jn. 3:16), and just “Life” (Jn. 11:25) The word Jesus used in these scriptures is the word, ZOE. It’s a Greek word that means the Life and Nature of God. So, the answer to the question as to what this Life is… it is the substance that makes God, God!

The reason it was translated eternal, everlasting, or eternal life is because God is eternal, and the only way to describe His life and His nature is to call it Eternal Life.

Romans 6:23 tells us that this Life is a Gift. The amazing gift of this Life is found in Jesus, and when we express our faith in Him, we experience the impartation of that Life! In other words, we receive the very life and nature of God! That is what the New Birth is all about, when we are born into the family of God and become His children, with His divine nature (2 Peter 1: 4).

How do we receive this Life? Romans 10:9 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”  In the Old Testament, people would confess their sins to be accounted righteous. John the Baptist ministered under the Old Testament, and they came confessing their sins. But under the New Testament the confession of the believer is “Jesus is Lord!” By confessing, or verbally agreeing with the Identity of Christ, the new believer is not just Counted righteous before God. He is actually MADE righteous (2 Cor. 5:21), not by confessing his sins, but by confessing Jesus as Lord! That’s when God’s Zoe Life is imparted, and we become children of the living God. Jesus put it this way; “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (Jn. 5:24).Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them (ZOE, My Life and Nature) Eternal Life…”   Jn. 10:27-28a
