“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16
The Bible has always been under attack ever since its first printing by Johannes Gutenberg in 1455. With the tireless persecution it has endured through almost 6 centuries, the fact that it still remains is amazing, but even more amazing is the fact that it is consistently the number one best seller every year! Historically, its sales are over 5 billion – more than any other book ever written. Another unique fact is that the Bible is the only Book ever written that portrays a perfect character. No other book ever written can boast that. They say a book is only as deep as its author. That would make the Bible the deepest Book ever written. I would make it The Eternal Truth, because its Author is the Eternal, Almighty God!
Jesus used the Word of God to defeat the devil in the wilderness. He used it to silence the Pharisees and the Sadducees and expose their corruption. He, Himself was the Word made Flesh; Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today, and forever!” A compass never changes. It always points north. Jesus, as the living Word of God never changes.
If compass needles began to change, they would be rendered unreliable tools. Likewise, if the Bible began to change, it too would cease to be an eternal Truth, and would only apply to certain times and conditions. But, we can be sure that the Bible is true and we can believe it! Jesus did! If the Son of God, who is our example, used the scriptures to defeat satan, heal all who were oppressed of the devil, silence the religious leaders and expose their corruption, navigate through life, walk in, and demonstrate the creative power of the Word, then we can be sure that it is the eternal Truth and not limited to certain times, trends or conditions. It is eternally applicable in all its content until time is no more!
We know that Jesus walked in the authority of the Word of God – The Truth! His Word was given to us to provide eternal Truths and bring us the correction and instruction we need daily. In other words, it was given to be our guide through this life, to inspire us and establish us in a hope the world cannot give.
If you feel like you’re lost in a wilderness of confusion, disappointment, loss of direction, and pain, I can recommend a good resource. It worked for me! And, it will work for you! That’s because it was “given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness!” Read it, meditate on it, walk in it, apply it, and trust it. It’s a powerful guide. It’s Your True Compass!
