And the next day he took out two denarii [two day’s wages] and gave [them] to the innkeeper, saying, Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I [myself] will repay you when I return. Luke 10:35 AMPC

The Good Samaritan is an example to all of us. From the beginning of this parable to its conclusion he did everything he could to help a man who fell victim to thieves; a man who was robbed and left him half dead. We are told he had compassion on the man. The last thing we are told is that he left two denarii with the innkeeper to provide resources for the man’s stay and his recovery. From the first to the last, he did nothing but give of himself and his resources. His very last act was even more selfless by leaving the innkeeper with a blank check!

We know that the Good Samaritan serves as a type of Jesus, whose last act was selfless too! When He died on the Cross He sealed the New Covenant, which is really a blank check for all who believe. If we have been robbed and wounded by life, even left for dead; there is One who loved us enough to die for us and provide the resources for us which are found in our inheritance (Eph. 1:18; Col. 1:12).

Interestingly enough, when the Samaritan left the inn the following morning, he left the innkeeper two denarii. A denarius was the standard in Jesus’ day for one day’s wage, which means that he was planning on returning to the inn in two days to check up on the man, and to settle up with the innkeeper for any further expenses he incurred. In 2 Peter 3:8, we are given a huge prophetic key which says, “But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day!

Jesus left the earth two thousand years ago, and He planned on returning in two days, or 2,000 years. No one knows the day or the hour of His return to catch away the Church, but we can certainly know the season. The question is – are you ready? If you’re not, you can be! It’s as simple as speaking His Name out of your mouth and believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead! He gave all He had, and it’s time for the world to see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven (Mt.5:16)! He loves you!

With Love,

Pastor Tom
