And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’” Luke 16:26

The great gulf in the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus was a real gulf of separation. Jesus gave us a graphic picture of what happened to people who died before the New Testament was established. The resurrection, however, changed everything! The righteous, who died under the Old Covenant, and were carried by the angels to Abraham’s Bosom (which Jesus also called Paradise), were all carried away from that place when Jesus rose from the dead and were eventually ushered into heaven. Matthew 27:52-53 says, “and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.

There were many infallible proofs associated with Jesus’ resurrection, plus the resurrection power that exploded into the earth when Jesus rose from the dead! The righteous dead were evacuated from Abraham’s Bosom, and Jesus led that captive train to liberty! That great multitude busted heaven wide open with celebration and rejoicing! Jesus came before the Father and said, “Hi Dad! I’m home! And look who I brought with Me!”

Too many Christians still live under the assumption that there is still some form of that gaping chasm between them and God. They’re living their Christian life as if Jesus never went to the Cross, never paid for their sins, never destroyed the one who had the power of death and never rose from the dead victorious! They’re still trying to live up to standards that have already been fulfilled by Jesus; standards that no man could ever hope to live up to. Jesus desires to hand them the spoils of His victory, yet they still try to fight a war that has already been won! Jesus said, “My Peace I give unto you!” Hebrews 4:3 tells us that “…they who have believed do enter into REST…” Isn’t it time to stop trying to produce your own righteousness and receive His GIFT of righteousness (Romans 5:17)?

It truly is finished!

With Love,

Pastor Tom
