“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.” 2 Timothy 4:2
When Paul was signing off in his final letter to Timothy, knowing his departure was imminent, Paul charged Timothy before God to PREACH THE WORD! He also warned him that there would be a time when people would not “…endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears…” Right now, there is a worldly itch that has crept into the Church that all the sound equipment, light shows, fog machines, celebrity and prestige cannot satisfy.
The Power is in the Word of God
The Gospel is the revelation of the righteousness of God! The Word of God is the standard of righteousness and evil. But the real power of the Word of God for us in this hour, is the revelation it gives us of the limitless depths of God’s love and mercy and the Power of the Blood of Christ to deliver man from His sins and himself. It also reveals the tyrant whom Jesus defeated and handed us the victory.
This is why Paul charged Timothy before God to PREACH THE WORD. The only answers to the world’s turmoil now is found in the same Word of God! America’s solutions were never found in its politics. They were always the result of people turning to the Word and praying the Word and asking God for guidance and correction, for instruction in righteousness to settle inner questions and give His direction.
Occupy Till I Come!
The assignment to the church is to Occupy till He Comes! And the way we are to Occupy is to PREACH THE WORD! That’s what will keep us centered in His will as DOERS of the WORD. Preaching the Word to ourselves first is what keeps us instant in season and out of season. The Word will do the correcting, instructing in righteousness, and it will equip us and furnishing us for every good work! When we Do what God says to Do by doing the Word, God will Do what He said He will Do! The Power is in the Word – so let’s PREACH THE WORD!
