I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old.” Psalms 78:2
If you asked the average Christian if they’re familiar with the Parables of Jesus, most would say, “Sure!” They might mention the Parable of the Good Samaritan, or the Servants and the Talents, or maybe even the Prodigal Son. Many have learned life lessons of compassion, responsibility, and morality from the parables, yet the treasures in the parables go far beyond lessons of compassion and morality. They are also filled with secrets that mark the times we live in. They also reveal the true nature of God, they give us prophetic timelines, and God’s plan for mankind that are found in creation itself!
The above scripture, from Psalms 78, was given to show us beforehand what would characterize the ministry of Messiah – that He would speak in Parables. It says He would also “…utter dark sayings of old,” which the Holy Spirit gave us a better understanding of in the Gospels. The phrase, dark sayings of old in Psalms 78:2, were translated in Matthew as “things which have been kept secret since the foundation of the world.” Accordingly, Matthew wrote, “That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.!” In other words, the dark sayings of old refer to the things that were kept secret from the foundation of the world.
Those secrets are revealed in the Parables of Jesus, and their true meanings range from the foundation of the world to the end times we are living in now. The Parables show us things like the true nature of God, the principles of His kingdom and how His kingdom operates. They reveal God’s wisdom, angelic ministries that are here to serve us, and insight into demonic activities. There are many other revelations in the Parables that give us the advantage for foreknowledge of things to come and the benefits that have been built into the New Covenant and are at our disposal!
This month we’ll be looking into some of the Parables of Jesus, so stay tuned for a fascinating new look into the Parables of Jesus, and what they are saying to us now!
“…I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.!”
With Love,
Pastor Tom
