“…Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:8
Jesus spoke the above words as He closed the Parable of the Unjust Judge. Many have misinterpreted this parable in a couple of ways. First, believers have wrongly been taught that the traits of the unjust judge are those of God. They are not. They have also been taught that this parable tells us to use prayer like a battering ram to try to get God to move on their behalf. But that’s not what this parable is saying.
Jesus was not comparing the Unjust Judge to God. First of all, God is not unjust. He is completely JUST. Jesus was making a contrast between God’s willingness to answer our prayers with the Unjust Judges’ unwillingness to minister justice to the widow.
.God is not only a just Judge who will avenge His own speedily, but we also have Jesus our Advocate (I John 2:1) who is always making intercession for us. We have more going on for us than anyone had going for them under the Old Covenant. So, while satan has deceived many into believing in God’s unwillingness to answer prayer, Jesus was countering that in this parable by showing us how willing God is to answer our prayer… and SPEEDILY!
The persistence Jesus was referring to in this parable, isn’t a reference to pestering God by repeated prayers. I believe the persistence referred to here is the persistence of faith. That is, to stand believing even though we cannot see any results. When we stand in faith, looking to God, knowing He is faithful to answer our prayer, that’s when the enemy is most vulnerable. Most Christians don’t realize how powerful it is when they simply stand believing even though we have seen no indication that our prayer has been answered. To the devil, our standing in faith is like a fist that is laying blows on him. He would do anything to try to discourage us and get us to lose heart, quit, throw in the towel and walk away…
But we have mixed faith with God’s Word and we are not like those who shrink back. We are the ones who stand in faith and hope against hope because we know that God is faithful! It is impossible for God to lie, and God said, “ASK and You Shall Receive!
That’s why Jesus will find Faith in You when He returns!!
With Love,
Pastor Tom
