“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:15-16

This subject is more involved than time permits here, but perhaps a good way to start is to look at three phrases in this scripture, and focus on them for a moment: those phrases are, 1) walk circumspectly. 2) (walk) not as fools, and 3) (walk in) wisdom. In these are answers to redeeming the time! In other words, bringing the times in which we live under the Blessing of Redemption! If you never seem to have enough time, scripture provides a way to redeem the time!

Walking circumspectly, in its simplest definition, like being prudent, is to be as wise as serpents, and as harmless as doves (Mt. 10:16). Wisdom looks to the future and shows us where our actions, words, thoughts and decisions will lead us – either to rewards, or consequences! The Spirit of Wisdom is the Holy Spirit! John 16:13 tells us that He, the Holy Spirit will “show us things to come!” He is our Counselor! He reveals Truth and gives us wise counsel and instruction. We can trust Him because He loves us! He has proved His love toward us, because while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us!

Fools, however, walk through life doing whatever they want to, or feel like doing, with no discipline, and without regard for future consequences; that is, until the consequences come. Then they spend their time trying to make up for their foolish decisions.

God, the Holy Spirit, knows the future and He is available 24/7 to help us navigate through life with joy and freedom from fear! So, no matter how evil the days are in which we live, we can be certain about the future because we are walking circumspectly, not as fools, and we’re redeeming the time because we are walking in the counsel of the living God!

With Love,
