“O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?” Matthew 16:3

It’s important to the Lord Jesus for us to be aware of the signs of the times. It’s important for many reasons. Many times the people of God received direction from the Lord simply by understanding the times they lived in. In I Chronicles 12:32 it says that,  “… the children

of Issachar…were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do…”

When Israel was delivered from slavery in Egypt, they didn’t leave empty. The Hebrew women launched a campaign to go to the Egyptians homes to ask for their “…jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment…in order to spoil the Egyptians.” They carried away fortunes of precious jewels, and gold and silver!

Seems strange that God would weigh them down with all these treasures and bring them out into the wilderness where riches mean nothing. Books have dedicated many pages to this very question, but I believe much of it was going to be used for the new temple they were going to erect in the Promised Land to honor the God who delivered them from slavery in Egypt.

Yet, their 11-day journey turned into 40 years because of their rebellion and unbelief. As a result, their treasures were used for the building of the Tabernacle in the wilderness rather than in the Promised Land. Much can be said about this, but Deuteronomy 8:18 says, But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore unto thy fathers, as it is this day.”

We, as believers, operating in the principles of the New Covenant, would be far more effective in this world by acknowledging those things that were freely given to us through the Cross of Christ! Acknowledging those things, and their purpose will keep us focused on where God wants to bring us, and the callings and purpose He has on each one of us.

Each of us has been given value by God. We have treasure in our earthen vessel, we have gifts that are imparted to everyone, we have been given vision, substance, empowerments and grace to teach us how to live godly in Christ! Let’s be in the moment, situationally aware of our purpose and calling, for we are the temple of the Holy Spirit! This is being Prepared, Packed, and Ready to Go!

With Love,

Pastor Tom
