“Keep your heart with all diligence,For out of it spring the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23
Jesus gave us the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares to teach us to implement the above scripture, which is to “…keep our hearts with all diligence.” Why, because out of our hearts spring the issues, the wellsprings of life, and the very forces of life! That’s what the devil wants to put a stop to! If believers knew what was in them after feeding on the Word of God they would be unstoppable! And the devil knows it – We need to know it!
Jesus gave the parable of the Wheat and Tares in Matthew 13, and compared deception, temptation, distractions, lust, the cares of this life, and other worldly things… to tares in Matthew 13. Tares are not just harmless weeds. Tares are weeds that we call, “darnel,” and they are actually poisonous. They contain biotoxins that can affect us in every facet of our being. They can cause symptoms of drunkenness, nausea, vomiting, and even death in humans. They contain an actual cocktail of toxins that have been used for their psychoactive effects to attack the nervous system and cause delirium. They can also create gastrointestinal distress and paralysis. It’s no accident that Jesus used tares to reveal the enemy’s direct purpose for using them against the believer.
The tares of the enemy accomplish these same effects, only they are designed to attack our soul and our heart! That refers to our mind and emotions, and the devil wants to infiltrate, re-route, choke and consume the Word of God that is in you! He does it by poisoning your mind, and your emotions, so he can subvert your will.
The Parable of the Wheat and the Tares holds an abundance of revelation about the tares of the enemy, and it also teaches us strategies so we can navigate through periods when a whole bunch of toxicity has entered our picture. Not all the weeds in our lives are of our own doing. We have an enemy who is out to steal, and to kill, and to destroy us, and he sows evil seeds to do it! But praise God! We are of God, and the Greater One is in us! And, by the way, Jesus is the One who planted us in His Kingdom, gave us the Holy Spirit to guide us, and the Word of God to feed us to keep us strong! We are a planting of the Lord, trees of righteousness, and He will be glorified in us!
With Love,
Pastor Tom
