“Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.” John 12:24
Jesus spoke the above words six days before the Passover, when His road had turned toward the Cross. This is when He became THE Passover Lamb. The corn (kernel) of wheat He referred to was Himself. Jesus was talking about His upcoming death in terms of a Seed being planted, specifically to bring forth a harvest. Through His death, burial and resurrection, the harvest would come forth through the preaching of the Gospel of the Risen Christ, in which the love of God would be validated by the sacrificing of His own Son for mankind. The Gospel is the only message that has in itself the power to turn people from darkness to light, from death to life, and from satan to God!
Jesus demonstrated to us how simple it was to reach an entire city when He spoke with a Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well just outside of the city of Sychar. She was an outcast Samaritan woman, who her own people would have nothing to do with. Yet, Jesus wanted to give her something she never had before – He was willing to have a conversation that would bring the presence of the Holy Spirit who imparted a Word of Knowledge (I Cor. 12:8) to Jesus that hit the target! She went back into the village and told everyone about the man out by the well who must be Messiah. She said that He told her everything she ever did! The whole town came out to see Him, and from that city, the Word of Messiah was sent forth after Jesus spent two days with them teaching and ministering to them!
We have the same Holy Spirit and He is still imparting gifts! He loves the lost and has given us the means by which we can reach them and produce immediate harvests! It’s time – Now – is the time! Jesus said, “Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!
God sent His Son as a Seed to die, and in doing so, He would bring forth much fruit! We can’t do everything, but all of us can do something. Ask God what He would have you do to start reaching people with what they truly need, healing for their deepest hurts, answers to their questions, vision for a future that God has for them, and it all comes through the simple Gospel of Jesus Christ!
