“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” John 14:26
Jesus knew the Holy Spirit as His Helper, His Teacher, the Great Counselor and Comforter. He relied on the Holy Spirit to show Him things to come. Getting to know the Helper by spending time with Him will revolutionize your life! The above verse tells us of some of the ways the Holy Spirit helps us.
- He is the Helper
A helper is someone who comes along side us and assists us. There are many who have the idea that the Holy Spirit is the Do-It-For-You-Er; those who feel that if God wants them to have something, they’ll have it; and if He doesn’t want them to have something, they won’t have it. No, God has laid out promises and principles in the Bible that require our faith and diligence to obtain. The Holy Spirit will HELP us, but we need to ask, knock and seek.
- He Teaches Us Everything!
Jesus said that the Holy Spirit will teach us all things. This is an unlimited range of teaching! Dealing with attitudes, life skills, overcoming sin, relational tips, marriage and parenting skills, how to succeed financially, are some of the all things that He teaches us. There is nothing the Holy Spirit won’t teach us if we allow Him to. I find that fascinating! Many think that if they have a wrong thought the Holy Spirit will leave them until they get straightened out. No! We need the Holy Spirit TO straighten us out! The Holy Spirit desires to teach us everything we need to establish us in the wisdom, knowledge and understanding of God.
- He Reminds Us of the Words Jesus Spoke to Us
I can’t count all the times I’ve remembered a scripture just when I needed an answer, or gain some insight, make a decision, or give a relevant scripture to someone when I’m counseling them. The scripture I needed at the time simply came to my mind. That was the Helper bringing the right Word to my remembrance! Expect His help in all facets of your life and He will show Himself strong on your behalf!
With love,
Pastor Tom
