“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” – John 8:31-32
One principle we need to remember is that, when we read the Bible, it’s really reading us! There is LIFE in the Words of the Bible! That’s because Jesus and the Word of God cannot be separated, and He is LIFE (John 14:6)! The Bible has properties that no other book has. Among them is that it’s the only Book in the history of mankind that portrays a perfect character and demonstrates His perfection and sinlessness through the resurrection of Jesus. It’s the only Book in human history that claims its Author is God (2 Tim. 3:16). It’s the only Book in history that claims to bring healing and wholeness (Ps. 107:20). It’s the only Book in history that claims to free the human soul (John 8:31-32)!
Jesus, in His present-day ministry, is our Intercessor (Hebrews 7:25). It says that He lives now at the right hand of God to make intercession for us. He is also called the Word of God (John 1:1;14). When we read the Word of God, our Intercessor is reading us, scanning our souls to see how He might help us. Through His Word He is seeking inroads to our lives to bring healing and strength, wisdom and understanding, vision and purpose. He longs for us to discover the purpose we were created for. These are among the things the Bible promises us when we continue in His Word!
He will never force His will upon us. So, He tells us to ask, seek, and knock on the doors of this life. He gave us His Word as the vehicle by which we can enter into that understanding so He can open His Truth to us, and reveal the kind of freedom that is only found in one Book, in One Person – Jesus, the Word of God!
Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” He is not a mysterious moving target. He is pure and simple Truth, a literal edifice of stability, and when we CONTINUE in His Word, we will know the Truth and we will experience the Freedom He came to give.
