“We also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.” I Cor. 2:13 NASB

When we hear the phrase, the language of the Spirit, many Spirit filled Christians immediately think of unknown tongues, and they are right, but there is much more! Tongues is only a part of the language of the Spirit. Let me put it this way; the more we pray and speak in tongues, the more we acclimate our spirit man to understand the language of the Spirit.

The Holy Spirit Speaks in Many Ways

The Scriptures tells us throughout the Book of Acts that He gave them visions and dreams. He made them to know things, and He gave them wisdom and understanding. He told them where to go, where not to go, where to preach and where not to preach. He spoke through them, to them and by them. He gave them impressions, leadings, and showed them things to come! He was an essential part of their everyday life! They engaged with, and depended upon the Spirit!

How to Engage in the Language of the Spirit

The first thing to understand about the language of the Spirit, is that it is the same language that Jesus spoke. He said “…the words I speak to you, they are Spirit and they are Life! (Jn. 6:63)” When we speak the words Jesus spoke, we are speaking the language of the Spirit. The more we speak His Words, the more accurately we will understand His language however He communicates with us. The Spirit will always agree with scripture, whether He speaks in dreams, visions, impressions, intuitions, by His peace, or a sudden quickening of scripture. One way I have found to engage with the language of the Spirit is to first pray in tongues. Then I read, study and meditate on the Book of Acts, as well as the Gospels.

You Shall Receive Power

Jesus’ Words were filled with spiritual power that the world didn’t understand then, and it doesn’t understand now! The most impressive thing about Jesus, was His words. We have that same Word in the Bible, which gives us the ability to abide in Him and walk as He walked (I Jn. 2:6). We have also been given a tremendous gift from the Holy Spirit – a prayer language that creates in-roads for the various ministries of the Spirit to become realities in our lives! Those realities are His presence, power, guidance, revelation knowledge, wisdom and understanding; all of which are doors for us to enter in and enjoy our Father and the things He has planned for those who love Him. It all begins with the Language of the Spirit!

With Love,

Pastor Tom
