“And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.” Matthew 24:44
I remember when I was about 7 or 8 years old, on some Friday nights when my brother and I would be going to bed my dad would say, “Get a good night’s sleep… we’re getting up early to go fishing in the morning!” When I heard those words, I got so excited I could hardly even think about going to sleep! I’d be ready to go right then! All I had to hear were those words and I was there! That… is a picture of ready heart.
The Bible has much to say about being ready and having a heart that’s ready to go, especially when we hear the voice of the Lord. When Noah heard the voice of God, he was ready to do what God said. When God spoke to Abraham to go to a land He would show him, he was ready to go. When David heard mocking taunts of Goliath toward the armies of the living God, he was ready to go! When Nehemiah heard God’s call to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, he was ready to go! When Isaiah heard the voice of the Lord, He said, “Here I am, send me!” All of these had a ready heart to be a part of what God was doing! They all left eternal testimonies for us, to inspire us, encourage us, and show us what can be accomplished when we have a ready heart! Jesus is our ultimate example, and He said, “…for I do always those things that please Him.” (John 8:29)
You may wonder what the connection is between an 8-year-old who was excited about fishing, and all these heroes of faith in the Bible. Well, Jesus admonished us to have the faith of a little child, and a child is always ready to do whatever his heart is full of. And every child’s heart has a desire to please their father. And, when our hearts are full of faith and connected to an unlimited God, who calls Himself our Father, we can be as excited as a young boy is about fishing with his dad, because every day becomes wide open for making the impossible a reality!
With Love,
Pastor Tom
