“For my part, I sincerely esteem the Constitution, a system which without the finger of God, never could have been suggested and agreed upon by such a diversity of interests.” – Alexander Hamilton
From its beginning America was a pool of diversity. Alexander Hamilton recognized this and acknowledged the finger of God as the ultimate influence to which the United States Constitution can be ascribed. Over the last 245 years we have united as one people to win unprecedented, miraculous victories that we would not have won without the Finger of God. The Revolutionary War was more than a miraculous defeat over the British, the most powerful military on earth at the time. Then there was the War of 1812, where, once again, the British, with new strategies in place, tried to conquer us, but failed again! Once more the finger of God pointed to that which united us.
Like any other nation, we have fought through our struggles, dealt with our sins, endured threats of enemies, both foreign and within; but the finger of God was always there to point us once again, to what united us, instead of that which divided us.
The core system of values America was founded upon are only found in one other document in history – the New Testament: The Gospel of Jesus Christ. Even a casual glance into our founding documents shows a pronounced and unapologetic declaration of Faith in God and the Principles of Truth that Liberates mankind. Our Declaration of Independence acknowledges that the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness came from God, not government. Our Constitution was not designed to limit the rights of its citizens. It was designed to limit the rights of its government, thus liberating us from the threat of tyranny. The Constitution guaranteed the rights of its citizens to pursue their own interests under the guidelines of the Constitution, a document that raised a higher standard of freedom than any other nation has ever known. The Constitution was designed to unite the beautiful diversity of mankind – not to divide mankind. Thus, the adopted motto of America, E Pluribus Unum – “Out of Many, One.”
There will inevitably be those who will continually attempt to divide, sow discord of all kinds and mock the history of the United States. But ask those critics to point to one other nation who measures up to their standards. Can they name one other nation, other than America, that has done more to right the wrongs of its past and establish its minority populations in the freedoms and advantages it offers? Can they point to any nation in history that has done as much as America has to address the violations of human rights? The fact is, they can’t!
Again, America has always been a pool of diversity, but I believe that if we would all rise to the opportunities our nation offers and embrace the rights we do have, then we’ll be able to enjoy what America has to offer. Let’s be grateful for what we do have, so we can be confident that the finger of God will show up for us now, as He was faithful to do so in the past. Our children are depending on it.
With Love,
Pastor Tom
