Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters… as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ… With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:” Ephesians 6: 5-7

I know it’s never good to be overly preoccupied with our appearance, yet, since we are stewards of the Name that is above every name, it is important to how we present ourselves with excellence in all we do. Colossians 3:23 says, “…whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” The word heartily is the Greek word, “psuche” which refers to the soul or heart. When we obey God from our heart God can get involved in a deeper way and we’ll carry more influence with others. We will be exuding an excellence that others will want and become more open to hear what we have to say.

Many of us have been in corporate settings and watched the climbers elbowing their way up the ladder with eye-service using all the new catch phrases of the day, and their promotions often come at the expense of others. The Kingdom of Heaven doesn’t operate that way. God doesn’t step on people in order to get His way. He loves everyone and is always ready to forgive and bring people into a right relationship with Him, and that is the message that has been delegated to US AS BELIEVERS. We owe it to God, who wrought such a great salvation for us, to be honest with ourselves and Him and live for the good of others and obey Him from the heart! God looks upon the heart, and He knows the difference between obedience from the heart like Abel, and the eye-service of ingratitude, like Cain.

When we seek the Kingdom way above our way, and assume a righteous position for all we do, we’ll find all the provisions we need will be abundantly supplied (Matthew 6:33). There will be no need for eye-service, or man-pleasing necessary. When we do what is pleasing to God, His witness will be our guide, and His grace will be perceived as an excellent spirit that cannot be counterfeited or used for selfish purposes. That’s because excellence is not a natural human virtue. It comes from God, Himself…

With Love,

Pastor Tom
