“And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.” 1 Samuel 8:7
Samuel was a prophet in Israel about 1,000 BC, near the end of a 400-year period known as The Judges. For various reasons the elders of Israel came to Samuel one day and demanded a king be appointed to reign over them so they could be like other nations. Troubled over this, Samuel went to the LORD and the LORD said, “Listen to them, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.”
There are many messages to glean from these passages, but in terms of where we are today in a nation that is going through a time of transition ourselves, we need to be aware that the light that is in us is very seldom received well by those who are ignorant of the Word of God. Our transition in America is one of leaving the darkness of corruption and chaos, and returning to God, and godly principles. God promises that, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked bear rule, the people mourn.” (Proverbs 29:2) For the last four years America has been mourning the loss of our finances, Constitutional freedoms; government overreach and a perverted justice system, government corruption and abuse of power in Congress from insider trading, and back room deals at our expense, leaving us weak and exposed to our enemies. Not to mention the lunacy in our schools with gender confusion and mutilation and indoctrination into socialism.
God is faithful though! And He has delivered us from evil and opened up a powerful door for us in which we would be wise not to squander. It’s time to assume our position in the renovation of our America, and double down on our message of the life-giving power of God that is found only in the Gospel of Christ! We also need to be wise because Jesus said, if they persecuted Me, they shall persecute you also.” If they reject us, it’s really because they are rejecting the light of Truth in us, and that light is a Person – Jesus! (John 8:12)
So, we don’t need to take rejection or persecution personally. It’s not about us. It’s about spiritual warfare, enemies of God that are overcome by love and truth! Keep loving them, praying for them, and stay strong. And know that, if they reject you, you’re in good company. Jesus said, “Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets (like Samuel and others) which were before you. (Matthew 5:11-12)
Great is your reward in heaven! God is on your side!
With Love,
Pastor Tom
