“Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the wellsprings of life.” Proverbs 4:23

The word, “keep” above has a two-fold meaning. When we are to KEEP our heart, it means to first, guard our heart, and the other meaning is to maintain our heart. In other words, we need to defend our heart and guard it from the influences of sin, but we also need to maintain our heart and keep it strong. Maintenance requires care, nurturing, feeding and, most importantly, keeping a heart connection with God through prayer and meditation on the Word of God.

Psalms 1 says that when we meditate day and night on the Word of God everything we do will prosper! Joshua 1:8 says that when we meditate on the Word of God and do what it says, we will make our way prosperous and have good success! John 15:7 tells us that when His words abide in us, and we abide in Him, we can ask whatever we will, and it shall be done!

When we meditate on these truths, we are opening up the door to the supernatural power of God so we can be everything we were created to be in Christ!

The Word of God is full of power, but it needs to be mixed with faith! There are spiritual forces resident in the Word of God that our hearts need just like our bodies need physical food. But if we don’t believe the Word and act on the Word, our hearts will wax gross and our spiritual  eyes and ears will close to the power of Truth (Mt.13:15)! Those forces include revelation knowledge, wisdom and understanding, and the Spirit of Faith! These forces help us partake of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4) as we meditate on the Promises of God!

When we meditate on the Word of God, we are feeding our hearts the food it needs to remain strong, healthy, and sensitive to the Spirit of God. When our hearts are full of the Word of God our prayers will be effective, our words will have more power, and the fears we once had will simply dissolve; and faith will be our way of life.

Our hearts are powerful, and they need to be guarded and maintained. Jesus gave us the instructions, insight, and resources to keep our hearts strong and empowered because He loves us and wants the very best of heaven to be living in us as we continue to abide in Him!

With Love,

Pastor Tom
