“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ. I Peter 1:7
Have you ever wondered why the trial of our faith is so much more precious than gold? I believe it’s because gold, like everything else in this world, is perishable. But whatever we accomplish through faith or establish in our lives by faith is eternal and imperishable! Faith causes us to stand, to endure hardship and trials and come out victorious.
God loves faith. Faith is what pleases God, which is why the devil hates it! Faith opens avenues for God to work in our lives that the devil has no defense for. We receive vision, plans and strategies by faith. So, the enemy’s strategy is to dilute our faith with the cares of this world, other desires, and deceiving us into thinking that money (gold) is what brings fulfillment. If those don’t work, he’ll bring persecution and affliction (trials) our way and attempt to get us to look at problems instead of God. That’s when we try and solve our own problems with our own strength, and our trials will always look bigger that way! Faith, on the other hand, brings God’s strength and ability into our trials with answers, solutions, strategies and power!
Jesus was tried in the wilderness. The Holy Spirit led Him there. But Jesus overcame the devil through faith in the Word of God! Yes, the Holy Spirit drove Him into the wilderness, but it was the devil who tempted Him. Jesus, however, kept each temptation in the arena of faith by speaking the written Covenant of the Word of God. When the devil departed, he never confronted Jesus one on one again.
David killed Goliath by faith, and David made a lot of mistakes in his life after that, yet we’re still talking about David’s faith today! So, next time you’re facing a test, a giant, a temptation, or a problem that’s bigger than you, remember your faith is as big as God. Faith gives God access to your life to bring you the power you need when you need it! Gold perishes like everything else in this world, but faith produces an incorruptible crown!
Remember, it’s not you who is being tried. It’s the trial of your faith. I John 5:4 says that faith is the victory that overcomes the world! So keep your faith working because the devil has no defense for faith!
