“…whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:19

Jesus said that if we continue in HIS Word, we shall know the truth, and the truth shall make us free (John 8:32). A lot has been said by folks about God’s will, His involvement with man, and His sovereignty. Yet, when all is said and done, the only words that will matter will be what Jesus said. “Heaven and earth will pass away, but His words will never pass away!” (Mt. 24:35)

So, what did Jesus say?  He said, “…whatsoever we shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatever we shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

The words, bind and loose have several meanings. The word, bind is the Greek word, deo; and it means to tie, wind, bind, or, to put in bonds. Since it’s a verb, it depicts the act of forcibly binding the enemy, thus halting him and his plots! The word, loose, is the Greek word, luo, which means to dissolve, put off, unlock, destroy. It’s the same word that was used in I John 3:8, where it says, “…For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy (luo) the works of the devil.”  This is real spiritual power that the Lord has delegated to the Body of Christ in order to bind up, shut down, and even destroy the works of the devil, thus carrying on the earthly ministry of Jesus, as His witnesses, and fulfilling the Great Commission!

Briefly, let me say that there are many things we don’t understand about the will of God, and no one can fully understand all there is to know about the will of God. But we can use what we do know, and we can know a lot more next year and the year after that as we grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ. And we will grow as we heed these words that Jesus spoke that, ‘whatever we bind and loose on earth shall be bound or loosed in heaven.’

If we take Jesus’ words at face value, it opens up powerful doors for us when we simply do these Words instead of keep questioning them. They actually place US in the position of power – not the devil! But, as long as we question them the devil will continue to keep us bound, rather than us keeping him bound. Jesus gave US the keys of the kingdom… Yet we keep on waiting for God to take them back and do everything for us. Wouldn’t it be easier to just do what Jesus said and watch the doors of the kingdom open up to us? His words are liberating Truth that brings Revelation, Power, and Freedom!

With Love,

Pastor Tom
