“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” John 10:27
In the Old Testament, one of the names God revealed Himself as, was Jehovah-Shammah, which is found in Ezekiel 48:35. Jehovah-Shammah means, “The God who is there, or the ever-present One.” That’s who Jesus is! When Jesus spoke the words, “my sheep hear my voice…” It is spoken in the present tense, meaning that He is always speaking to us! It’s exciting to me to know that whatever situation I’m in, or whatever dark future the enemy is forecasting, Jesus is there with me, and He is speaking to me. When I follow Him, He will bring me through those times safely.
It’s important that we communicate with Him constantly, to be talking with Him, asking Him questions, quoting His Word and giving His counsel first place in our lives. That is how we train our spirit. If we’re not willing to hear Him in the day-to-day issues, we’re not going to hear Him in life’s larger and more critical issues either; not because He’s not speaking. It’s because we were not attuned to His voice. In other words, we’re so busy listening to our own heart, we won’t be listening for His voice when it comes and we’ll miss it.
It would be helpful to all of us if we voiced these few words continually throughout our waking hours: “I know the voice of the Good Shepherd. I hear His voice, He leads me, and I follow Him! You will be surprised how many scriptures will begin to come to your mind, and how many new ways of seeing things start entering into your daily life. That‘s His voice, and that is how we begin to train our hearts and develop “ears to hear” because He is Always Speaking!
With Love,
Pastor Tom
