“And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the LORD will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” 2 Samuel 5:24
This was the second time the Philistines came to attack David shortly after he was anointed King of Israel, and, it says that “…David inquired of the LORD, and He said, “You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees. And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the LORD will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” (2 Samuel 5:23-24)
God was revealing His strategy to David. We need to remember that the physical enemies of Israel under the Old Covenant represent the demonic enemies that we face under the New Covenant. “For we battle not against flesh and blood, but against… spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 6:12)” We may experience financial attacks, plagues of sicknesses, or attacks against our families, but God has strategies in place for all of them. Our part is to inquire of the LORD, like David did.
I remember years ago when Laurie and I were running a Nursing Home Ministry, there was an outbreak of disease in one of the facilities and we went back to pray for one of the residents who would usually come to our services. As we began to pray, we were led to make faith declarations in the Name of Jesus. Then, something happened. Laurie had an open vision and one of the walls in the room opened like a window and she saw demons, like flying monkeys, flying through the room and bouncing off the walls as they were fleeing in terror to get out of the facility. They were fleeing from an angelic army! To make a long story short, that facility was cleansed of the that plague and they never had that outbreak again!
The Ability is God’s and the Body of Christ is God’s Agency and we have delegated authority as ambassadors for Christ to release His power through the preaching of the Gospel of Christ! Romans 1:16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation…” The Gospel of Christ is the power of God, and it’s the Gospel that activates angelic armies to fight our spiritual enemies with spiritual power! This is the amazing ministry of angels who have been sent forth to minister to us because we are the heirs of salvation (Hebrews 1:13-14)!
