“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let THEM have dominion… over all the earth.”  Genesis 1:26

From the time of creation God gave man dominion in the earth. And as cultures and nations developed, language has changed, value systems, cultures and nations have succumbed to the darkness of a fallen world. Blame God as we may for the mess this world is in, the truth never changed. God gave MAN dominion of the earth!

Yet, we read in Psalms 24:1, “The earth is the LORD‘s, and the fulness thereof…”  This clearly states that the earth is the LORD’s! Then, we read Psalms 115:16 that says, “The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’s: But the earth hath he given to the children of men.”

So, which is true? Is the earth the Lord’s? Or, has He given it to man?

The answer is, Both are True!

It’s much like a landlord who owns a house and rents it out to a tenant. When the tenant moves in he signs a lease that designates the period the property is leased and when the lease will expire. There are legal stipulations where a lease is concerned. One such stipulation is a tenant’s right to privacy. If the landlord entered the house without express permission from the tenant, he would be guilty of trespassing and the tenant could press charges against him, even though the landlord is the owner of the house.

In the same way, the Earth is the Lord’s, yet He has designated man to have dominion over the Earth for a specific period of time. The Bible seems to indicate that the earth lease will terminate after 6,000 years of human history. When the lease terminates then God will resume full control over the earth, where His desires will be carried out as it is in heaven.

Until then, God has limited Himself concerning His activity in the lives of mankind. One of those limits is that He will not override the will of mankind. Man has a free will, and God cannot, and will not, violate man’s free will. But He has given man access to Him through the Covenant provisions that were bought with the precious Blood of Jesus! So, we, as believers, can invite God’s Visitation, His Counsel, and His blessing, and access all the Provisions we can find in the Bible!

This is where the life of a believer gets exciting! It’s where we find our value as children of God because we are one Spirit with our Father, who is unlimited in His ability to help us when we open our lives to Him by faith!

Yes, God is sovereign in the true sense of sovereignty, meaning He is Supreme. But His Supremacy doesn’t mean He will interfere with the free will of man. God gave US dominion over the earth and our own personal lives. When Jesus came, He revealed the kingdom of God and opened the door to heaven’s treasures for us to come and enjoy!

With Love,

Pastor Tom
