“I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling…” Ephesians 1:17-18

Many times, people have asked, “How do I know what I’m called to do? And how do I begin?”

I don’t believe there is one set formula that fits for all concerning our calling or finding God’s plan for our lives. The scripture above says that the eyes of our understanding need to be enlightened in order to know the hope of our calling. That means we need to receive it by understanding God’s ways, and His nature. We receive that understanding by Reading the Word – Believing the Word – and Doing the Word! (James 1:22)

The Bible is a different Book than mere literature because everything we read in the Bible actually empowers us to do what we are reading about. So, the Bible is not just an information bank, or an entertainment medium. Although it is those things, but it is so much more! It is a well of inspiration that moves us to action. As we do what the Word of God says to do, that’s when the scriptures come alive to us. Much like the example we see of the ten lepers in Luke 17:14. They asked Jesus to be healed, and He said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests (that was what a leper would do who was healed, he would show himself to the priest who would offer the proper sacrifice) And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.” They took Jesus at his Word, and when they began to go to the priest, they found they were healed!

I’m using that scripture to illustrate a point, because there’s a principle involved here. That is, that we find God’s plan for our lives when we begin to do what Jesus said to do. It’s in our obedience to the Word of God that we begin to receive what God has for us. The Word comes to life when we do the Word! (James 1:22-25)

God created you and He knows why He created you, and the purpose for which you were created. Take Him at His Word and begin DOING what His Word says to do, and His plan will become obvious – not only to you, but to others too!

With Love,
