”For we who have believed do enter that rest…” Hebrews 4:3

Family schedules, work demands, tightening budgets, marriage issues, meal planning and grocery shopping, issues with the kids at school, car repairs, shocking things we hear on the news – we could go on… but, the point is, many are simply trying to live. However, we end up chasing life, primarily because we have more questions than answers.

We do have options though; the Bible says that God is a “…very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). We only have to do one thing He asks of us. We need to turn to Him. Jesus said, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Mt. 11:28-30

We have all read that before. We have all heard it 100 times. But – have we done it?

Jesus knows exactly what you’re going through, and He also feels it!  But unless we come to Him, no matter how much He wants to help us, we tie His hands when we insist on doing things our way. The condition to this amazing promise has never changed. Jesus said that we are to come to Him.

God doesn’t force His will on us, or make things happen the way He wants to. The New Covenant is entered into by willing entities – those entities are you and Jesus. He willingly laid aside His life for us, and if we do the same He is more than able to give us that refreshing rest that He promised to give us.

The REST Jesus spoke of is a word that means to pause, cease, desist, or refrain from… it’s the   Greek word, anapauo, which means to relax, rest and refresh. The root word is pauo, from which we get the word pause. So, if we study the invitation Jesus was giving us here, we’ll find that He is telling us to make a concerted decision to cease and desist from being driven; refrain from a life that keeps us chasing our tails, and believe and receive His rest and enjoy the life He promised us. Jesus has a Rest to give us, but, we need to enter into that rest by coming to Him, and believing Him. Our part is to heed what He said and believe it by doing it. He knows everything we need, and He is a genius at managing the things we commit to Him. So, if we pursue anything in this life, let’s pursue Him! Let’s believe Him and come to Him with a whole heart! As it says above, “We who have believed do enter into that Rest!

With Love,
