“Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters into that within the veil;” Hebrews 6:19
One look at this verse above should jar us to a whole new appreciation of hope, and the value we place on hope and what it actually is and does! Through hope, this says, we enter into that which is within the veil. It’s also necessary to understand the significance of the veil to understand what this verse is actually saying.
The veil was a reference to the veil of the temple that separated the presence of God from man. It was called the Holy of Holies and people were forbidden to enter it. The only person allowed to enter in behind the veil was the high priest, and that was restricted to once a year. The presence of God is such a magnificent presence that no man would be able to stand in His presence and remain alive. However, when Jesus died on the cross, He went into the temple and tore that veil from the top to the bottom, releasing the presence of God to dwell in the spirit of men instead of a temple made of stone. In effect, we have become the temple of God (1 Cor. 3:16)!
Hope is what people need in these times! Our job is to connect people with that hope that was given to us when our ears were opened to the Gospel and we began to walk toward the light of truth instead of away from it. Hope is what connects us to the full supply of what people need to endure in these days. Hope is what allows us to see what the world cannot see and enter places the world cannot enter. Our hope is the anchor that stabilizes us and empowers us!
What is your hope anchored in today? If it’s in Jesus, you have joy! If it’s in the world, you’ll have depression… Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God’s plan is a good one. Anchor your hope in Him!
With Love,
Pastor Tom
