There are many different opinions about Jesus, who He was, what He actually did… many people question His deity and the miracles that were credited to Him. Still others argue about the various events that surrounded His earthly life. That’s because people generally want proof of something before believing it. Nowhere in the Bible does it even imply that we are saved by proof! Nor does it say we are healed or delivered by proof. When Jesus healed people, He would usually say, “Your faith has made you whole.” He never said, “There, I proved it to you!”
The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation for everyone who – Believes! I remember hearing Stan Telchin tell the story of his daughter who went away to college and became a Christian. Stan Telchin was a Brooklyn Jew, and this news was more than alarming to him and his wife, so he went and got a Bible and started reading it so he could PROVE his daughter wrong! However, the more he read it, the more he saw the true story of the Jewish Messiah come to life from the pages of the Gospels! He saw the prophets’ declarations and the Abrahamic Covenant fulfilled in Christ! In short, he believed in Christ and received Him as Lord and Savior! The Gospel of Christ was the power that made a new creation out of Stan Telkin and his family!
God will never force His way into our life. He’ll never try to win our hearts with fortune cookie wisdom. He is the God of Life, and the God of the Living! But – if we allow His Word to dissolve our questions and opinions, we will begin to sense His presence as we read the scriptures. That’s when faith will begin to flood our hearts, and we’ll begin to experience the life-giving Power of the Gospel! And, by the way, God is not against furnishing you with proof, but proof only comes after you have believed. That proof will be in the peace that comes as the result of knowing Jesus as your Lord and Savior!
You see, if Jesus had never lived on this earth, no man could have ever invented Him. He truly is the Son of the living God! Only Jesus has the power to give eternal life! That Life is found in one message, the Gospel of Jesus Christ! It is the Power of God unto salvation!
