Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest, I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.” Matthew 13:30

One thing that is helpful for believers to know is that the judgment this world is under is the law of seedtime and harvest (Gen. 8:22). We are rapidly approaching that day when both those who are evil and those who are just will reap their individual eternal harvests. The evil will reap judgment, and the just shall reap rewards. For the time being though, we live in a fallen world where evil is present, but our identity is in Christ, who gives us the power to determine our own harvests through faith in God. Our thoughts, words, deeds and actions determine the harvests we reap. (Romans 8:6; Mt. 12:37; Jn. 5:29)

Harvest time is coming when the winds of truth will separate the tares from the wheat. Then, the tares (children of the evil one) will be bound in bundles to be burned. But, the wheat (the just) will be carried into the barn (Mt. 13:30), which represents heaven!

The Good News is that we, who have placed our faith in Christ, will be delivered from the judgment of this world. John 5:24 says, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

The Harvest is coming, and the fruit of we have produced will reveal the roots and seeds of our lives. And though we have all fallen short and have sown evil seeds, and even acted like bad seeds, there is always hope. That Hope is a Person – It’s Jesus, who was sent into this world to pay the full price of our sin by taking our sins upon Himself and carried them into hell, where He also took the judgment of our sins. By doing so, He put them away forever, and once we have placed our faith in Christ, the Father considers our sins paid in full!

We can either pay for our own sins, which is eternity in hell; OR, through faith in Jesus Christ, who loved us enough to go to the cross in our place, we are accepted by the Father with a clean account because Jesus paid it all. Yes, He paid for our sins, but rather than force His will on anyone He gives us the choice to either receive Christ or reject Him – that decision will determine our eternal harvest. In Deuteronomy 30:19 God told us that He had set before us life and death, and blessing and cursing. Then He told us that His first choice is that we would “therefore choose life…”

With Love,

Pastor Tom
