That he (God) would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; Ephesians 3:16

This is a portion of the prayer Paul prayed for the Church at Ephesus. It is a prayer from the
Holy Spirit, and since it written in the Bible, it is a prayer for all of us to avail ourselves of. In
other words, we can pray this prayer for ourselves. In verse 16, Paul prayed, “That he (God)
would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his
Spirit in the inner man”. The word ‘might’ is the Greek word, ‘dunamis’, which is miracle
working power. So, in effect, Paul is praying that we would be strengthened with miracle-
working power! Dunamis is the Greek word from which we get the word “dynamite” from. So,
Paul is comparing the miraculous power of God with explosive, self-energizing power! And why
wouldn’t it be? It is the same power that created the universe, which is still expanding at the
speed of light, exploding with stars, solar systems and galaxies continually!
The above scripture tells us that, if we ask, God would grant us, according to the riches of His
glory, to be strengthened with might (dunamis) BY HIS SPIRIT in our inner man!
How does this happen? It happens as we exercise our spirit the same way we would exercise our
body to build physical muscle. As we consistently exercise our faith by resisting the pulls of the
world, the flesh and the devil, we are building spiritual strength into our inner man.
And – one of the best spiritual exercises for receiving spiritual insights, revelation and might, is
by praying in tongues. I Corinthians 14:4 tells us, “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue
edifieth himself…” The word, “edify” is the Greek word, iokodomos, which is a compound of the
words oikos and domos. The word oikos describes a house that is fully built and complete, while
the word domos describes the building process by which that house was constructed. So, when
we pray in tongues we are actively cooperating with God who comes along side us as His new
creations, and He begins to teach us, train us, and empower us with the strength we need to

reproduce the works Jesus did, and even greater works (John 14:12)!

It’s exciting to learn with Him as He teaches us the power of His life in our spirit man! I believe
this is what it means when it says in Ephesians 6:10, “Finally brethren, be strong in the lord and

in the power of His might!” God wants us strengthened with His Might!

There is an undefeatable man inside of you! And He is filled with the strength of God’s MIGHT!

With Love,
Pastor Tom
