“For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 2:16

There was a popular belief for years that we only use 10% of our brain, but that has been debunked as a myth in recent years using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), which has determined that we actually use almost all of the 100 billion neurons (cells that carry information) in our brains. These studies show that most of our brain is in use most of the time even when performing a simple task. Also, 20% of our brain is functioning even when we sleep.

I believe that the problem is not our brains, but the influences we subject it to, and we must remember that our mind and our brain are two different things. The brain is the physical organ that the mind operates through. The rich man in hell still had his mind intact and his memory even though his body, with his physical brain, had been buried. Father Abraham said, “… Son, remember (Luke 16:25)…!” The rich man could still process thoughts without his brain. Think about that! Like I said, the brain is simply a physical organ that the mind operates through, the mind being part of our eternal being.

Think about the eternal nature of the mind compared to the limited, physical functions of the brain. Romans 12:2 tells us that we are transformed by the renewing of our mind! That means we can replace our natural mindsets, that are limited, with God’s thoughts, which are unlimited! Our minds play a significant part in the transformation process of a believer, connecting us with an unlimited God in both thought and ability, because “as a man thinketh, so is he (Proverbs 23:7)

The Bible says that God’s Words are life (Proverbs 4:20-22), and by feeding our minds with the Word of God, measurable, supernatural change occurs in our entire being because His Words are life and health (literally, medicine) to all our flesh (Proverbs 4:22)!

Too many perceive Christianity as going to church on Sunday and that’s it. Then they wonder why they encounter relational, physical, and financial problems… all of which are completely covered in the Sermon on the Mount alone! As for God, He said, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul (mind) prospereth.” (3 John 1:2)

What do you…. Think?

With Love,

Pastor Tom
