“That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation…”. Hebrews 6:18
The scriptures tell us that there are some things that God cannot do. 1) He cannot change because He is Perfect. 2) He cannot deny Himself because He is Faithful. 3) He cannot be tempted by evil because He is Holy. 4) He cannot break His Word because He is Righteous. Then, we read there IS something that is IMPOSSIBLE for God to do… it is impossible for Him to lie!
With that in mind, it’s always comforting to know that when I’m reading the Word, I’m reading Words of pure Truth that is backed by the One who spoke them. It’s also empowering to know that what I am reading is not just philosophy. God’s Words are spiritual law.
Spiritual laws are mentioned in the Old and New Covenants such as the law of faith (Romans 3:27), the law of seed time and harvest (Genesis 8:22), the law of love (James 2:8), but the point is, when God speaks, His Words are all authoritative, creative, life-giving, and they will always accomplish that which pleases God, and they will always prosper in His purpose!
Which means that when we find a promise in the Bible that addresses our need, and we adopt the promise as our own, God is obligated to fulfill it. For instance, if we have sinned, and we go to God to be forgiven, we have a promise in 1 John 1:9 that says, “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” So, how can we be sure God will forgive us? Well, If He didn’t forgive us He would be an unjust God. So, we can be sure that if we go to Him to receive any of His promises, we can be confident that we will receive the promise. Remember, His Words are spiritual law and they operate in our lives by faith. Just like gravity, which is a natural law, a spiritual law that cannot fail! II Corinthians 1:20 says that “for all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and Amen, unto the glory of God by us!”
The only impossibility I see in the Bible where God is concerned, is that It Is Impossible For God to Lie! We can believe Him because His Word is True!
