“…His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” Psalm 91:4
The Bible says the truth acts as a shield that protects us from the enemy. When Jesus was in the wilderness, the truth was his shield of protection. It was His defense, and it was the only defense He needed against Satan. Satan is powerless against Truth!
When Jesus was persecuted by the Pharisees and the religious leaders of His day, it was the Truth that protected Him from the criticism, lies, and even protected Him from being stoned and crowds that wanted to throw Him off a cliff!
When we speak the Truth, it activates the Power of Truth. The Truth is what silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees, the scribes and even Lawyers. Truth is a spiritual force that exposes deception and all the lies of the enemy. There was an incident in John 7 when the Chief Priests and Pharisees dispatched temple guards and officers to arrest Jesus. When they returned without Him, the Chief Priests and Pharisees demanded to know why they didn’t bring Him! “The officers answered, ‘“No man ever spoke like this Man!” (John 7:46) Truth was all the shield Jesus needed against those who sought to unjustly arrest Him.
After all the incidents that are recorded in the Gospels concerning all that Jesus triumphed in, the only conclusion we are left with is that no one could lay a hand on Him until He allowed them to. And even then, it was to fulfill His role in the greatest mission in human history – the Redemption of mankind! He walked in Truth, and the Truth was His Shield! He said to Pilate, “for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the Truth. Everyone who is of the Truth hears My voice.” (John 18:37)
That same power of Truth that literally paralyzed the world’s system of demonic rule, and the religions and governments of man, is available to all who have been born into His Kingdom. That’s because we have been “delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of His dear Son!” (Col. 1:13) We need to begin believing in the power of Truth that abides in us and shields us! Jesus said, “…you shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you FREE! That’s Power!
Abraham knew it! David knew it! Elisha knew it! Daniel knew it! Nehemiah knew it! Joseph knew it! Gideon knew it! Moses knew it! And so can you! As we continue to spread the Gospel, the forces of hell will oppose us, and we will need to know and be acquainted with the power of the Word of God. Jesus said “…Thy Word is Truth!” The Word will prevail when we commit to do the Truth!
