“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.” I Corinthians 1:30
Of all our redemptive benefits, this one is among the top on my favorites list. We are not only invited to ask God for wisdom if we lack it, but this verse above states that Jesus has been made unto us wisdom! Christ lives in us every present moment, and He is the wisdom and the power of God! (I Cor. 1:24) Many believers wonder though, how they can be sure the wisdom they are receiving is from God or not. All of us have asked, “Is this wisdom coming from God, the devil, or is it my own imagination?” Well, there are several ways that we can be sure.
In Matthew 7:24-25 Jesus said that, if we hear His sayings and do them – that’s wisdom! Acting on and doing God’s Word is wise because it brings us into the predetermined flow of God’s wisdom and establishes us in stability and safety from the storms of life. Proverbs 8:8, in reference to wisdom says, “All the words of my mouth are in righteousness…”
Proverbs 8:20 says “I (wisdom) lead in the way of righteousness…” God’s Wisdom always leads us in the way of righteousness. The simple definition of righteousness is “right standing with God.” Therefore, when we are acting on God’s wisdom our sense of oneness with God should increase, which is evidenced by a boldness that only righteousness can produce in us. Proverbs 28:1 says, “…the righteous are as bold as a lion.”
Confidence in our decisions, and the boldness to walk in our decisions in times of adversity is strong evidence that we have received the wisdom of God.
Other ways to be confident we are obtaining wisdom from God are 1) Single mindedness, 2) Peace with God, and 3) The assurance of His presence and power when we need it in order to carry out His Word. If we examine the scriptures concerning Jesus’ life and ministry, we will see these are the characteristics of Jesus and how He operated in the wisdom of God!
He silenced the Scribes & Pharisees; Astonished doctors of the law; Exposed the folly of man’s wisdom; He Won the multitudes and gained many enemies. The wisdom of God will always offend some, but others, who are hungry for the truth will hear, and they will receive His power and be healed of all life’s ills.
With Love,
Pastor Tom
