“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.” Romans 8:11

This verse tells us many things, but one thing we can see immediately is that one of the ministries of the Holy Spirit is to “quicken our human bodies.” In terms of our focus this month, which is “The Image of God in You,” I want to focus on what takes place in our mortal bodies when we engage the ministries of the Holy Spirit.

The Greek word, quicken is a compound of two Greek words; zoe, which is often referred to as the Life and nature of God, and poieo which means “to do.” Together this word means to make alive with life! It carries the idea of revitalization, rejuvenation, or to refresh with NEW life!

How does this happen? Is this something that the Holy Spirit does independent of our knowledge or cooperation? No. The Holy Spirit never forces His will or His way on us. One avenue we open for the Holy Spirit is through praying in tongues. I Corinthians 14:4 says, that when we pray in an unknown tongue, we edify ourselves, which means we are re-energized. Jude 1:20 says that we “build ourselves up on our most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost!”

Praying in tongues opens many avenues to the Holy Spirit. Think about this: The Apostle Paul prayed in tongues more than anyone. He also received more revelation than anyone else! Paul knew how to access the Holy Spirit’s ministries of quickening in many ways – including the life-giving ministry of quickening our mortal bodies in the areas of divine healing and supernatural strength and endurance.

The Image of God becomes a powerful reality when we speak the language of the Spirit. He is the One who cooperates with us to quicken our bodies with new life and refreshing strength for each day! He is the Same Spirit who raised Jesus up from the dead – and He lives in YOU!

With Love,

Pastor Tom
