“And the apostles said unto the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.’ And the Lord said, ‘“If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.’” Luke 17:5-6
One of the many things I’m so grateful to the Holy Spirit for is how He gives us the ability to see things through God’s eyes. God sees things much differently than we do. We’ve all made excuses, like, “If I only had this or that, then I could be successful.” But none of us can live life by what we don’t have. So, the Holy Spirit starts by showing us what we do have! And, according to the Word of God, we have a great deal more than we may realize!
Notice, Jesus didn’t increase the Apostle’s faith like they asked Him to (above). Instead, He began to tell them how faith works and how it increases. And, throughout the entire Bible we see that faith always works through words. That’s why Jesus answered them like He did. He said, “If you have faith as a seed…you might say…and it would obey you!” In other words, He was teaching them to use the faith they already had. He was telling them how faith increases!
Like many of us do, the disciples were asking Jesus for something they already had. They simply weren’t using it. Again, like many of us, they didn’t know they had this kind of faith!
Philemon 1:6 says, “That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.”
As we acknowledge those good things that are in us in Christ, our faith become effective, and we can access those things that God tells us are ours, and we can activate those attributes that the Bible says are already in us!
The Holy Spirit will lead you and guide you as you begin to walk in these truths. He will give you direction and instruction and let you see your situation the way God sees it! That’s exciting! But, we must begin by using what He has already given to us. We have been given the stewardship over those things. and God will not violate His Word by overriding it. The Holy Spirit is willing and available 24/7 to teach us, open our eyes to these truths, and give us a full understanding of them. As we grow and increase in these gifts and attributes we will see through the eyes of the Master more clearly and exponentially as we initiate them by faith!
With Love,
Pastor Tom
