“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” Luke 6:45

The heart is intrinsically linked with every part of our inner man, including the words of our mouth, our spirit, our soul and even our physical body. Obviously, the heart I’m talking about is not our physical heart, but the very heart of our inner man. Just as the physical heart is necessary for the life of our body, our inner heart is necessary for the life of our inward man.

Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” In other words, the heart is complicated. As complicated as the heart can be, it’s actually controlled by very simple principles.

Colossians 3:15 says, “…let the peace of God rule in your hearts…” Jesus said, “Let not your hearts be troubled…” Proverbs 2:2 says, “…apply your heart to understanding.”

Proverbs 3:1 “… let your heart keep my commandments:

Proverbs 4:4 “…Let your heart retain my words: keep my commandments…”

Proverbs 4:23 “Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

Hebrews 3:8 “…Harden not your hearts.”

Based on these scriptures, it seems that we have been given a great deal of authority over our hearts, including what to allow it to do and not to do. It tells US to keep our hearts with all diligence!

My point is that there are many treasures we can fill our hearts with, whether we fill our hearts with good treasures or evil. But whatever we allow to fill our hearts to abundance will eventually come out of our mouth in the form of words, and words are powerful! Jesus taught many of the properties and principles of words… He used His words to bring Hope, Blessing, and Healing. According to Luke 4:18, He used His words to heal the brokenhearted. He came to give us new hearts! He came to give you good treasure to put into your heart to be a blessing to others, so they can in turn, do the same. So, when we fill our hearts with the good treasures of truth and blessing, we’ll be part of the answer and not just another voice that’s propagating the problems of this world. Life is too good and too short to waste a moment allowing evil into our hearts.

With Love,

Pastor Tom
