“ Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned
by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.” James 3:4-5

At the end of each day, it’s wise for us to review its events, especially the words we spoke. The
above scripture teaches us that our tongue works like the rudder of a ship. It sets the course of
our life. If we’re not careful, our words can very subtly establish a course that will produce a
disappointing result. Our words are like a pre-programmed guidance system. The more we
speak words of strife, the more strife we’ll experience. We don’t have to speak the same words
the world does. We are citizens of the kingdom of God, and as such we are ambassadors here in this world.

So, ask yourself some questions at the end of each day. What have I been saying? What was the
tone in my voice… anger, resentment, offense? Or gentleness, mercy, and understanding?
I think you’ll find that reviewing your words will become a process of changing your course, and
leading others to a more favorable way of receiving what you have to say. Without taking a good
long look at our words each day, we may awake suddenly to the realization that an enemy has
been at the helm with an agenda of his own. Proverbs 6:2 says “You are snared by the words of
your mouth; You are taken by the words of your mouth.” Snares are what keep people bound
until they are finally taken prisoner. Too many believers have spoken the words of the enemy
over their lives and situations, and those words are holding them in bondage.
But, here’s the Good News! If your words got you into bondage, then your words can get you out
of bondage! When we speak God’s Words over our lives continually, we will be operating in what James called, “The Law of Liberty!”

So, if you’re experiencing more trouble than triumph, more strife than peace, and more defeat than victory… ask yourself honestly – What Are You Saying?

With Love,
Pastor Tom
