How many of us have been burned by someone we trusted? It hurts, doesn’t it? The enemy likes to use those situations to lock us up in a long prison sentence of anger, bitterness, mistrust and offense. The betrayal itself was never the end-objective of the enemy. It’s the aftermath of the betrayal that is designed to hold us in a state of misery for the rest of our lives! The end result – isolation and vulnerability – easy pickins for the devil when a sheep is separated and alone.
We need to understand that we can trust people, without placing our trust in people – that trust belongs to God. Jesus talked about this, and the Apostle John wrote about it:
“But Jesus did not trust himself unto them, for he knew all men, and because he needed not that anyone should bear witness concerning man; for he himself knew what was in man.” John 2:24-25 ASV
This verse, which, at first glance might seem harsh, actually reveals a huge key to why we can trust the Lord Jesus Christ with our lives and our future. Given that He knew how sinful, reprobate and evil we were, yet He still gave up everything for us and went through the worst pain and degradation anyone ever went through to secure our salvation and give us eternal life! The take-away here is that it didn’t matter what we were. He loved us anyway. And, if He loved us as sinners, how much more does He love us now that we are children of the Most High God!! Love sees through the eye of faith, and He saw our potential as new creations, filled with the Spirit of God and walking in fellowship with the Father!
Trusting people has its limitations because we are all human and none of us are perfect. I’ve proved I’m human – how about you? We can trust God though! Especially if we, like Him, have been betrayed. Jesus literally went to hell for us! That is a love we can TRUST! It’s a love that continues to invite us all to leave the past behind and dwell in the House of the Lord forever!
With Love,
Pastor Tom
