“By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.” Hebrews 11:27
One of the prime obstacles to faith is fear! Think about the fears that Moses must have had. Forsaking Egypt meant forsaking his identity. Egypt was where he grew up, not just as a citizen, but in the very house of Pharaoh, a ward of Pharaoh’s daughter. He enjoyed privileges others only dreamed of, living in the lap of luxury! In Egypt, He was celebrated, he had wealth, position, and honor. A life like that would be difficult for anyone to leave behind, yet Moses did.
Moses had no idea what his life was going to be in the wilderness. He only knew what it had been in Egypt. This serves as a lesson for us. Fear of what lies ahead; the fear of consequences we may face for leaving our past behind to walk with Jesus – fear is what the enemy uses to get us to look back and regret our choice to follow Jesus. But Moses endured, and this is a big key for us; Moses endured as seeing Him who is invisible. Young’s Literal Translation says, “for, as seeing the Invisible One, he endured!” How do we do that? The same way Moses did, by faith!
The Bible says that, “when we see Him (Jesus) we will be like Him for we shall see Him as He is.” (I John 3:2) When we see Him through the eye of faith, we will forsake the world and our past, and our faith will begin to see Him who is invisible. Then we will experience the transformation to get through what seems to be impossible! For with God all things are possible!
