“And He said to them, ‘Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?’” Luke 2:49

‘What do you want to be when you grow up? What do you want to do when you graduate from college? Have you figured out what you want to do for the rest of your life?’ Questions! Did you notice that all these questions put the focus on you and your ability to figure life out? There is nothing wrong with these questions, but we must see that all of those questions exclude the most important question, and that is, ‘What is God’s plan for me?’ After all, God created me!

The Biblical model is God’s design, and when God created man, everything was already prepared for him. When Adam was created on the sixth day, God had everything in place for him. God gave him “…every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.” (Genesis 1:29) God also had Adam’s vocation ready for him and gave him dominion over all the earth! (Genesis 1:26)

My Father’s Business

When Jesus was 12 years old His family went to Jerusalem for the Passover, and when they were returning to Nazareth, they realized that Jesus wasn’t with them. When they finally found Him after a three-day search, He was in the Temple sitting with the doctors of the law, who were literally blown away by the boy Jesus to the point of astonishment (Luke 2:46-47). When Mary told Him that they were looking for him everywhere, He asked, “Why were you looking for Me everywhere? Did you not know I must be about My Father’s business?”

Many are looking in all the wrong places for the life that will probably fall far short of the life God, Himself, created for them to enjoy. Jesus made the right decision and chose to be about the ‘business’ for which He was appointed. That life led Him to where He is now, at the right hand of the Father, interceding for you to make the right choices and discover the Life God created for you. That’s the life He prepared just for you! And, in case you need reminding, like we all do, this life is very short, and eternity is endless, and we need to be about our Father’s Business, which is eternal!

With Love,

Pastor Tom
